About

Statement
My artistic practice is based on the desire to go beyond the surface of society, to bring to light hidden or unheard realities. At the heart of my research are the relationships that weave our existence: the relationship with ourselves, often hypocritical and conflictual; the connection with the micro-nucleus that surrounds us, in its dual nature of nest and cage; the role of each within the great human community, where the symbiosis that binds us to each other contrasts with the egocentric solitude of our times; the inevitable bond of dependence and responsibility that the individual and humanity all have towards the environment that surrounds us.
The direct interaction and dialogue with the others represent the starting point of my speculations, while the donation and rebirth of their lives is the beginning of my art.
Objects, traces of different lives and experiences are reinterpreted, manipulated and then used to convey a universal and very human new meaning.
In particular, my artistic research is inspired by the sub-Saharan ubuntu vision, according to which the individual is a created and creative part of a single great totality of human beings and Nature, where individual identity arises from an act of intersubjective and dynamic co-creation.
I am convinced of the urgency of applying the ubuntu vision in our current context, and it is why I want to transpose it in different forms of art, the most direct and involving way to reach everybody and talk to their souls.
The hidden message within the material is the basis of my multi-disciplinarity, which guide my artistic process, combining painting, sculpture, engraving and installations, able to hide and reveal messages thanks to the interaction with different luminous spectrums and with the surrounding space.
Bio
I’m Avvassena (b. 1998), a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Milan, Italy.
My practice originates from a deep interest in the human being and their relationship with others and with the surrounding environment. This core drives an eclectic, layered approach to visual and communicative expression.

I hold a Bachelor's in Interior Design and a Master's in Communication Design from Politecnico di Milano. Through national and international exhibitions, editorial collaborations, and partnerships with brands and non-profits, I explore pressing social and environmental issues—such as the impact of climate crisis, violence and arms diffusion, health awareness (e.g. breast cancer)—with the aim of turning art into a space for dialogue, awareness, and connection.
